Global carbon emissions reached a record high in 2018. It’s not Kansas anywhere anymore, Toto.

Sing along: Somewhere over the rainbow oceans rise …

“The figures suggested there is no clear end in sight to the growth of humanity’s contribution to climate change.”Between 2014 and 2016, emissions remained largely flat, leading to hopes that the world was beginning to turn a corner. Those hopes appear to have been dashed. In 2017, global emissions grew 1.6 percent. The rise in 2018 is projected to be 2.7 percent.”

  1. I’m in my seventies. I likely won’t be around to see the disaster and I am actually thankful.
But thinking of the seven generations after me, it causes me great concern. I have no kids but I do have ten nieces and nephews, and between them (so far) they have five children. I truly fear for the absolute disaster they will be facing.

    • It does look grim. I can see the possibility of an amazing technological discovery that mitigates the effects of climate change, maybe even reverses it to some extent. But we’re never going to see it deployed as long as the people in power and their ignorant or knowing and greedy supporters continue to suppress movement in the right direction. In any case, that technological miracle would be the next thing people fight over, for its profits and its power to control, abuse, enslave and manipulate.

We don’t need to solve just the climate problem. We need to solve the culture problem. That need will remain whether humanity is killed off by climate or not.

And human life will become dependent on that miraculous technology. It will be vital to survival.

You can’t feed 8 billion people on the existing resources. Somebody has to eat the garbage, or garbage they put on the shelf in plastic tubes and call it food. (You squeeze it onto a post-waste reconstituted bread cracker and add a dash of Frank’s Hot Sauce.)

Of course, it’s possible we accidentally create a virus that wipes out a couple billion. Then there will be plenty of meat to go around for a while. They’ll call it “Grandma Soup.” With real 100% pure all-natural grandma in it. Only Southern Hemisphere Black or Brown Grandma, of course. But an organic version would be impossible.

Being in your 70’s and White, you may miss out on the Grandma Soup … eating it or being it. But watch out if they start taking DNA samples in the Census.
