Going through some old folders, I found the original set of 2005 Moose Pond Moon photos in a surprise location.  It included a scenery shot that I guess I had written off when the set was put where it belongs under photos/nature/moon.  Turns out it was worth keeping.

[This post has only 706 words, chunks of it in music quotes, and a few minutes for one song performance.]

I don’t think it’s exquisite.  It just has a way of holding my eye that doesn’t make sense.  Maybe there’s something wrong with my eye.

When I remembered the moon in Harry Chapin’s song, Circle, I was glad to have him join the moon song hit parade with this salty-sweet sing-a–long.

For several years, Harry was extra special to me.  While in the Navy, I saw him in a small venue in Virginia Beach.  Memory wants to say it was The Dome(?).

The audience sang down the house.  Certainly everyone agreed that Harry was never better in any show he ever did anywhere else.  It just had to be.

A friend and I hugged and cried when Harry died.  We smoked all through the night, and sang with all our might.  Harry made us believe we sang as well as he did.

It was like that for me when Jim Croce fell from the sky when I was in high school, but I was the only one it mattered to in my circles at the time.  Or the only one who would say so.  We were more into Steppenwolf.  An epic song of theirs I love, about the history of America, ends with these lines …

America where are you now?
Don’t you care about your sons and daughters?
Don’t you know we need you now
We can’t fight alone against the monster

Sometimes they echo in my head like they did on the way home from the concert.

Those were the days of the best music ever made (because I was in high school).  I hated the radio when Disco moved in.  I answered it with a Billy Joel tape.

It’s all about soul
It’s all about faith and a deeper devotion
It’s all about soul
‘Cause under the love is a stronger emotion
All About Soul, Billy Joel

Not THIS tape; this was a 1993 song.  But I came across it recently and it reminded me of somebody.

I think most people know and use these to varying degrees: conviction of faith, devotion, and something stronger than love.  Some people simply can’t.  They’re in too much pain that they can’t get rid of.  Of course I have these things built into my panoply of flawless super-powers.

Getting back to the moon in Harry’s song …

Sing along.  You will not regret it.  If it takes a few times to get it right, that’s good; all the more immersive the experience.

Everything is a matter of degree, immersion the deepest of all.

by Harry Chapin

All my life’s a circle;
Sunrise and sundown;
The moon rolls thru the nighttime;
Till the daybreak comes around.

All my life’s a circle;
But I can’t tell you why;
The seasons spinning round again;
The years keep rollin’ by.

It seems like I’ve been here before;
I can’t remember when;
But I got this funny feeling;
That I’ll be back once again.

There’s no straight lines make up my life;
And all my roads have bends;
There’s no clear-cut beginnings;
And so far no dead-ends.

I found you a thousand times;
I guess you’ve done the same;
But then we lose each other;
It’s just like a children’s game;

But as I see you here again;
A thought runs through my mind;
Our love is like a circle;
Let’s go ’round one more time.

Chorus [builds to crescendo]

I don’t know what’s up with the semi-colons.

If this were my last blog post forever, it would be a nice one to go out on.  I should keep that in mind with each post.

I know it’s unbelievable, even unbearable and intolerable, but I have nothing more to say.  Just this:

Thank you for visiting!  Did you sing?

    • Hi Emilie. Glad to tickle your eye, too. It’s nice to be useful once in a while! When you say larger, you mean just clicking on it, or zooming the browser?

      Do you go by “Em?” I have no idea why I’m naturally inclined to type that. Unconscious connection to … ?

      Please feel absolutely, unreservedly free to ignore this question!

      • Interesting. The last line, “Unconscious connection to …” and the link to Dorothy didn’t show up before. It popped up just this morning. Did you just write it or is it just the magic of transporting words and images through space?
        A few of my nieces delight in calling me Auntie Em. And when I was about Dorothy’s age, I used to wear pigtails. So I suppose it’s all connected.

        • Seems that YouTube connections are lagging lately. Others have said the embedded vids did not show up in posts, and i saw it hang a couple of times recently. Life in the tech lane. Well, at least we don’t have to check the water in the car battery anymore.
